Weekend course (August 29-30)
Saturday, Sunday | 10:00am-2:00pm | Aug 29-30
Learn the 10 yamas and niyamas, discover how to share these ideas with children, prepare to teach yoga to children through the lens of the yamas and niyamas in a secular way appropriate for schools.
Introduction to each of 10 Yamas and Niyamas. Each class includes facilitated discussion into core values, a discussion guide, small group work or activity, breathing exercises, partner poses, and yoga poses to challenge and engage children.
We will spend 2 hours diving into the yamas and niyamas as a basis for being in the world. We will learn the sanskrit and English for each and be asked to speak in small groups about the relevance in our own lives.
We will then spend 2 hours going over the lesson plans provided in the comprehensive lesson plan unit and pick a class to practice teaching in a small group. The small groups will experience the facilitated conversations and yoga sequences and meditations associated with each. (2 hours)
Students will design one lesson plan for their specific learning environment with children and practice teaching a few moments of it. (2 hours) We will create a group art project representing the art and journaling that can be done to learn the meaning behind the lesson. (2 hours) 1 hour for questions. 1 hour for creating an action plan for the implementation of yoga ethics in the world.
Comes with the Yamas and Niyamas comprehensive yoga curriculum for school-aged and adolescents valued at $125
Because teaching children’s yoga is much more than yoga poses, we see this course as a pathway to mature as an educator, parent, instructor, counselor, or whatever role you hold or plan to hold. Go beyond the poses by incorporating mindfulness, self-reflection and self-inquiry, art, meditation, positive self-talk, relaxation, student-lead programming, and more.
This is an online course, part of Flow and Grow 95-Hour Online Children's Yoga Teacher Training RCYT.
Trainees may wish to take this course individually or as part of the entire training package.
